Okay, so most people know I really admire Sic-Puppy from dA.

Well, she recently had a thing where you could sign up and join her characters' rat mischief. Or, well, you could add one of your characters to it.

I missed it, partially due to being busy and partially due to this weird apathy I've been fighting lately.

And I'm... well, kind of broken-hearted about it. Her characters are very "topical" insamuch as they often have backstories involved in real-life forms of rat research and... well, most don't know it, but there's a pseudo-Yorua character (Yorua is very felxible and likes to contribute to (become) all kinds of characters, including the unused rabbit character Nine who this... came from.) Yorua/Nine was derived from the gender studies they used to do on animals (and still do) with in vitro hormone injections and the like. Nine/Yorua is a female rat who was given male hormone treatments not just in the womb but out of it. She's summarily very aggressive, not unlike a dominating "alpha" type male rat... as in the type of male rat who frequently chases off others and makes frequent dominance bids. she has (because of me being me) very realistic (but badly done) hooded markings, typical of a lot of lab rats. Her "hood" is large enough to make her predominantly black, though, with white belly and hindquarters.

I really think (or I want to think) Sic-Puppy would appreciate the effort and realism but I guess... well, I fucked up and missed my chance with her.

I just wish I wasn't my own dumbfuck fault.

She would have made a great "soldier" of the mischief.

FUCKING HELL I DONT' EVEN KNOW WHAT I WANT TO DO ABOUT IT EXCEPT CURSE AND HATE MYSELF A LOT.

So I'm pretty sure I've brought this up before, but just in case:

Has anyone else noticed that everyone raised in the von Karma household has a personal weapon? Franzisca has that whip, Edgeworth has the knife, and I'm pretty sure we're all familiar with elder von Karma's taser. It makes me wonder what Franzisca's older sister carries.

A broadsword, maybe?

Anyway, that aside, the fifth case is more than making up for that fourth case from hell. I'm enjoying it thoroughly, and I'm positive the two people I know who play (Delcat and Aven) will enjoy it quite a bit as well. Of course, as we all know, this game is also a goodbye to most of the characters we've grown to love. With all luck, though, the lively spirit of the game will be left intact for the fourth. Here's hoping Mr. Odoroki doesn't disappoint.

(P.S. I won't miss Larry.)

Happy New Year, all you North American people out there. (Can't wait for the year of the pig to be over, though.)

GJ, I don't mind you shrinking my icon list, but for fuck's sake, at least offer me a less emotastic selection! Assume Inui is drooling with... excitement or something. That is a pretty festive background.

Meet the Ynnwaw.

It's pronounced "(ee)NN-wah," by the way, with a silent "ee" before the voiced N.

Physical Description?

Ynnwaw are pretty tall. That's a good place to start. They can be any colour that isn't "natural" by our standards--brown, black, white, grey--since those stand out too much and got selected out during the days of being prey. Some are colours we can't really see, like ultraviolet. Their markings look like crop circle patterns, and are usually lighter than the base colour. (Dark markings are a recessive gene and stand out a bit more.) Their back... I'll call them antennae... are the same colour as their markings, but their hook is usually the same colour as the rest of the body... if not, it's only slightly varied from it. This is because a noticeable hook is a great bobbing target for predators to follow and drastically coloured hooks sort of fell off the genetic scale. Adult male Ynnwaw have brilliant bicolour (like purple and green) wattles on their throats and arms. Eye colour can be just about anything, but it is never the same as the body or marking colour.
All Ynnwaw have four fingers on their (very small) hands--three fingers and a thumb. Their feet, however, have six toes--four in front and two in the back. They stand and run on the tips of these rather than the bases of them. Kind of like digitigrade squared, really. They have four ears, too. Which is fine, because their sense of smell is based right up by the eyes--their nostrils are very high up and placed almost directly between the eyes. Kind of exciting. They can smell blood from very far away, among a few other bodily fluids, and this used to be a survival thing. Now it just makes cleaning the bathroom a pain in the tail.
Speaking of tails! They have on the end of their tail that's formed of a horny growth. It's used partially for self defence but it was mostly useful for keeping parents and children together during storms or when fleeing. Now it's a handy way to carry picnic baskets. (Not really, I'm just tired.)

Biology?

They were formerly prey animals that outevolved their predators. They used confusion tactics for survival, mixing up and milling about as they ran to confuse predators and get away. Frequently they'd split off into groups, making the predators act fast, or suddenly change directions, preventing predators to forego a planned ambush. This complex evasion behaviour went a long way towards helping them develop sentience. Of course, they stopped being common prey a couple million years ago. XD
The Ynnwaw, like the Hegyalas, have three-lobed brains. They liked to live near water sources before, but now live almost exclusively in cities or settlements, being much less segregated than the Hegyalas (or, you know, those pesky Aaraixl who never talk to anyone.)
Like all lifeforms on the planet, the Ynnwaw don't have separate "teeth." Instead their skull grows to form the shape of the teeth--they're born with full dentition and lost teeth can't be replaced without prosthesis. :B
The average lifespan of an Ynnwaw is about 270-290 planetary years. Very few Ynnwaw make it to three hundred years of age, and fewer still make it far past it.

Gender and Mating?

Ynnwaw come in two sexes, which are pretty much male and female. They mate for life but both genders can and often do have multiple mates. They live with whichever mate they they are raising the child of at the moment. Childless Ynnwaw pretty much just do what they want as far as housing.

Childrearing?

Ynnwaw are born in pairs and each parent raises one child. They are cared for separately as infants and introduced to each other as they grow. This is good largely because 3/5 of children die in their first five/ten years. So very few remain with a "true sibling" in adulthood. Those that do tend to be very protective of them and may share a domicile even after mating ceremonies.
Young Ynnwaw are born live and fairly helpless. The parents have to tend to the offspring constantly for an extended period--this is because the gestation period is so amazingly short that the child is only just capable of surviving outside of the parent's body. Unfortunately, that 3/5 statistic I gave you comes from the fact that organ failure or malfunction is common in the developing young. So parents try not to get too attached at first.

Intelligence and Evaluation?

Ynnwaw are sentient and highly variable within that range. I don't know what else to say here at the moment. They're less uniform than hegyalas because they don't kill their children for being stupid. *shrugs*

Language and Speech?

Uh, obviously they have language. Unlike the hegyalas, the Ynnwaw language is "voiced"--that is, it's produced by vibrating the vocal cords, the way human languages are. Their written language was originally based around patterns of circles and lines, but the hegyala writing system has become standard in most cities because of the ease and speed with which it can be written.

Technology?

Not sure what to say here yet. XD They're the ones who started building city-like communities, but besides that... yeah. They have managed some pretty interesting weapons, and have developed most of the architectural techniques used on the planet.

Economy?

Money happens. The Ynnwaw have developed a form of currency, called the Rudd. Ugly-sounding name aside, it's the only currency used within most of the planet's civilisations now.

Food and Diet?

Ynnwaw like to eat root vegetables more than leaf matter, and have been known to strip plants of their leaves and eat only the roots and stalk, leaving the... leaves... to be eaten by other creatures. In fact, they'll eat almost any part of the plant BUT the leaves. Obviously, now edible plants can be bought as the desired component part, so it's a little less awkward and messy these days.

Domestication?

For the most part, domesticated animals are few on the planet. The Ynnwaw have learned to breed and raise a variety of exoskeletonal critters thanks to the hegyala, but outside of that I only know of one major domestication that they're responsible for. This is the domestication of some very large and rather intimidating animals used to guard cities and communities. These animals are naturally scavengers, and are usually seen solo in stables or outposts set up regularly within the community. A large city can have a score or more, but usually, a large community will only have one because they cost a lot to feed.

Art by Joe, a fantastic new friend.
